The PM ‘Regulars’

A FELLOW RESIDENT asked us during a chance encounter why the same people and faces appear in the pictorials that we have  been publishing since we took over the editorship of the newsletter last July.

Our quick reply was the personalities we featured are the people who are very active in the affairs of the PM Senior Club. We refer to them as the PM “regulars” who are at the forefront of every activity of the club be it the monthly club meeting and luncheon, the shuffle board games, the canasta sessions, the bingo games, the coffee sessions, the DVD movie screenings or the pot luck parties that the club sponsors occasionally.

These regulars include Dorothy Johnson, Arlene McCloud, Connie Bravo, Bernie Henning, Dorothy Halvorson, Jerry Cohen, Tom Barnes, James Helm, Frank Paynter, Dorothy D’Cruz, Carol Henson, Virginia Agbayani, Susan Harrison, Ann Van Nada, Ruby Chan, Flor Cudia, Bing Tijamo, Aida Adia, Cristina Labrador, Jane Mamangon and Raymond Vandenberg, Fred Fernandez and Alexis Balunsat

We are happy to note that the recent moved-ins—Rusty and Zenaida de Vera, Domingo and Rosita Cruz and Lean and Remy Villanueva have been attending the club meetings. Rosita, a pianist at the San Fernando Valley Adult Health Care, provided some music during the November club meeting and the Halloween pot luck party.

December 7 Christmas Party

WE ARE LOOKING forward to the annual Christmas Party on Thursday, December 7, 2006 courtesy of Parthenia Manor management. This is our first Christmas party here in PM. Longtime Parthenia Manor residents assured us this will be a grand celebration. PM manager Donna Weaver is leaving no stone unturned to make the party a big success. There will be plenty of food and entertainment galore with Clarence Ulrich.

Christmas Around the World

CHRISTIAN COUNTRIES AROUND the world have their own peculiar ways of celebrating the season of advent, i.e., the coming of the Savior. The season of advent is commonly known today as the Christmas season highlighted by the observance of Christmas Day on the 25th of December where families gather together and exchange gifts.

On Page 4, we are featuring glimpses of Christmas traditions and observances in some countries around the world where you might have come from. To immigrants from these countries who came to America in search of the American Dream, reading the Christmas traditions of your country will, maybe, evoke feelings of nostalgia to be home to your native country for the Christmas holidays.

On Page 5, is a condensed version of an article, “Christmas Philippine Style or Paskong Pilipino Is,” we wrote for the Christmas issue of one of the Filipino newspapers in Southern California. We hope you’ll enjoy reading this piece which offers a glimpse of how Filipinos celebrate Christmas.

To our fellow residents and friends in PM, our sincerest greetings for a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!
